Finals week is fast approaching and I'm not ready. Next week is Thanksgiving break and when we come back, it's go time. The library is ALREADY packed full of students. I can't imagine what it will be like after the break.
I've spent the past week at the library almost every day. Why? Because that's what everyone's doing. Trips to the library are always much better with friends. The hours of brain-frying activity pass by much faster when you're with people that make it more enjoyable. If no one were at the library, it wouldn't be seen as beneficial before finals. However, because so many people spend countless hours at the library, it must work. That's why more and more people are seen flooding in days and even weeks before final exams.
The library here at Southern Utah University has four floors. The first floor is like a computer lab, with several double screen computers available to all students. There are also a few community use computers. The basement has a bunch of tables and chairs for students to use in a quiet setting. Students usually go there alone. The second floor is like the basement, but some people go in groups and sit quietly. The third floor, my favorite floor, is where everyone goes to get work done but also be able to chat with those around them. It is the loudest floor in the library. Some people work best when there is noise, but others work best in complete silence. The third floor is also used for group presentation practice or group study sessions. I usually go there for group study sessions before exams. I will be doing this a lot when I get back from Thanksgiving break.
Moral of the story, we do things that other people are doing because it seems to work for them. Hopefully the other students' good examples have a positive affect on me when it comes time for me to take my exams.
