College sports are not only popular among the students themselves, but sports fans everywhere. Bigger universities' games are even broadcasted on live television. University alumni often stay loyal to their former school and attend or even donate to their schools athletic events. High school student athletes may consider the universities success in sports when choosing a school. There are three main divisions in NCAA college athletics: Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3. Divisions 1 and 2 offer scholarships with recruiting, whereas Division 3 does not. These divisions are broken down even further into conferences. SUU is part of what is called the "Big Sky Conference."

Football is easily the most popular college sport. Even people that aren't necessarily fond of football attend tailgates and games for the experience. The environment at football games is high spirited and loud. Here in Cedar City, SUU is a very community involved school. Members of the community attend SUU events often. SUU has won three conference titles and will hopefully gain another this season.
Another big sport in college, especially in March, is basketball. Big name schools participate in something called "March Madness", where universities compete against each other in a basketball tournament to take the title.
While sports don't necessarily appeal to every student at the university, athletic events make for some of the best college experiences and every student should participate in a few of them throughout their college career.
